Children in Need 2016

Hey. The past couple of days have basically been filled with baking. And bears (both Pudsey and those adorable brown bears on Planet Earth 2!). Put those things together (excluding the back scratching bears) and what do you get? Yup a repeat of last year and the year before that etc.
We have been on the big Pudsey biscuit baking challenge thing again and this year we have raised -drumroll please - WAY OVER LAST YEARS TOTAL AND ITS STILL RISING!!

Our biscuits are just that good ;) I will tell you the exact figure tomorrow along with more random chat about stuff and nonsense, Children in Need, my old baseball boots which I have drawn on with permanent marker and the most amazing YouTube series in the world that I cannot believe I only just discovered! Like what? Where have I been to have missed this FOR SEVERAL YEARS?! Huh. What have I been doing with my life?! ;D Anyway I'll leave you guessing what I'm talking about with two clues - New Zealand teenagers and Shakespeare. Cue fan-girling squeal.

If you haven't yet donated to Children in Need in someway or another, please do it now. It is the most worthy cause I can think of, so please, give to Children in Need so children all across the UK can have a happier future. And/or buy somebody's baking cause I speak from experience when I say, a lot of hard work and icing sugar went into them.

How to avoid Christmas till the 1st of December

Cos come on, blow-up Santa's in October? Seriously. I love Christmas but it does get dragged out.

1. Lock all things Christmassy in a tall cupboard, that is unreachable except with a very tall ladder and/or several chairs, and give the key to a trusted person until the time is right. Preferably you could use an attic if a spare one is at hand.

2. Boycott all shops with their Christmas stock out all ready. This basically means everywhere except the pet shop and....actually there isn't anywhere else that isn't doing Christmas yet. Looks like you are spending the next couple of weeks in the rabbits company. No one said this was going to be easy.

Note: This method means you won't be able to buy an advent calendar. I repeat, no one said this was going to be easy.

And yes, I did just re-use a photo from last year and stuck a big red cross through it.
Shh don't tell.

No one told me it was Halloween!

Hi. I'm really truly sorry for the gap but I just felt like I didn't have anything interesting to write about and even if I did I didn't have enough time. So yea. I'm sorry. I'll try not to let it happen again. It probably will happen again but I'll try not to. New month, new goals. November here we come!

To be honest I sort of forgot it was even Halloween, it was just a normal day, sleep, work, dance, repeat. I didn't dress up, didn't eat any candy or scare any innocent people.... I did have pumpkin soup though. That counts for something right?!

I'm running a Halloween party for the girl guides on Thursday so wish me luck for that! Urgh trying to control "just turned double figure girls in a massive hall where the temptation is to run around yelling".... I am dressing up as a black cat with Jess as a dog - who said twin costumes were dead?!

I cut off the sleeves of an old black top and made a thumb hole, to serve as fingerless gloves and will be wearing my beloved metal cat ear headband to top off an all black outfit, purple nails and a bit of makeup (still working out whether using an eyeliner pencil is the best way of making whiskers or if I should just go with black face paint!).

So yeah. Just a little update, be back tomorrow with a new post xxxx

Blackberry picking

I realise there a no actual pictures of blackberries, but I forgot to take any pictures until after we had striped the hedges of the gorgeous, plump, blackberries. My bad.

Maybe I should have just called this photo post something standard like September or Apples since that is what most of the photos are of.

But they aren't particularly romantic, imaginative titles.

Now I sound like Anne of Green Gables. Probably a result of listening to it on YouTube too much whilst typing. Not that I'm listening to it now. Oh no, not me. I'm completely professional whilst I'm blogging. Totally not fangirling over Gilbert Blythe right now.

No one really uses romantic in descriptive terms nowadays. Shame really.

Just popped this last picture in to show I didn't make the blackberries up!

CarFest

I have spent the weekend at the second fastest selling festival in the UK this weekend with my family and had so much fun! Here are some of the best bits from CarFest -

Even though at the beginning I wasn't too sure about some of the bands playing, the majority of the music was amazing! Some bands were still Meh (*cough, cough* The Darkness) but even their lighting was cool, so I could appreciate that bit of it.

I went on the merry-go-round riding a horse called Rosset!
Don't judge, you know I'm just a 5 year old stuck in a 14 year olds body.

I don't know who's van this is or anything, I wasn't looking at the whole van, funnily enough.
Just inside the bonnet. It has the Avengers inside it. The Avengers! I want one.

Whilst on the subject of Avengers, I spotted this little Captain America watch and whilst I'm not too keen on Captain (Phil Colsen, Trading cards, etc.) he does have a cool shield.

My face paint choice was, three silver dots at the corner of my eyes and blue glitter on my
eyelids. I had my eyes like this when I met Karen and Kevin Clifton! Love them.
The Clifton's not the glitter. Though I love glitter as well....

In the Honda tent. Very useful place. Any place is useful if they give away free sunglasses to be honest. Even if they do say I love Honda on them.... nothing a little bit of electrical tape can't fix and volia, a pair of fake RayBans! Sorry Honda.

It was my birthday recently, see Officially 14, and I was given an ipod touch by my parents
(squee). I have been messing around with photo editing apps and such like and I made this
with a photo of Will Young I took this weekend. Read that - Will Young THIS WEEKEND.
I saw Will Young play! *massive girly squeal*, and I don't girly squeal for just anyone.

Loads more amazing memories happened (Including riding in a SunBeam Tiger - I REALLY want one -) but it won't all go up on my blog.

And the best part? It's all for Children In Need.

(James Morrison was on the stage when I took this picture but I was really saying "I love the stage the atmosphere, CarFest" not "I love James Morrison". Sorry dude.
You are awesome though.)

Officially 14

I am officially 14.

- take it for granted that any outfits I feature from now on, are from H&M bought with the copious amount of voucher money I now have.
- I have moved on from Bambi on the ice rink, but am still not brilliant!
- Thanks Jess for helping me round the rink ;)
- Watching Oceans 12 at 11 o clock at night is not a great idea. Trying to process what the current relationship between the guy with the buzz cut and his ex girlfriend the cop is, whilst picking up the details on the French dude = confused Millie.
- Is 14 to old to know all the lyrics to When will my life begin - Tangled?
- I am not doing a Cursed child review but I have to say this: (MASSIVE SPOLIER ALERT)
Oh my gosh Bellatrix Lestrange and Voldemort have a daughter?! Made all my fan girling worth it.

Hi guys, I'm back! Once again sorry for the break, but hey, everyone deserves a holiday, right!
I am away again this weekend on what is basically a massive photo opportunity and I will write you a post for Tuesday.

Toodlepip

I am retiring from the world for a couple of weeks on holiday but the good news is that when I get back I will be full of pictures and stories and poems to tell you all. Unfortunately I have not scheduled any posts while I am away because I am not that organised, but please check out my new about page. I am off now to top-up my double decker red nail varnish with lots of clear top coat so it will hopefully survive the journey! Be back before you realise, Millie x

Photgenic without trying hard

Lazy mornings, breakfast at 10, hit the beach, dive straight into the freezing water, lying on the pebbles, getting tanned in the sun, cycle to the grocery store, lunch at four, get frustrated with the grabby machines, win a lolly on the 2p slots, BBQ black bean burgers, chatting till late, fall asleep at 11, repeat the next day.

We go to this beach hut for a few days every year but this is the first time I have posted photos for you.

Just thought I'd add - our crabbing record is 86. Beat that.

*obv we throw the crabs back into the harbour*

I'm on the Quidditch team don't you know

I was going to call this post "staying cool and looking hot" until I realised that
    1. that sounds lame
and
    2. it would be untrue since there is really no need to stay cool where I live (Mr Bluesky's still on sick leave on the other side of the world, I'll let you know when he gets better and pays a visit).

Anyways, I went to town the other day for a picnic with my grandma for her birthday and several hours and 3 falafels later I came home as the proud new owner of 2 new pairs of short shorts for the grand total of 4 pounds.

Some days I hate you Primark but other days we were meant to be together -
cheap, quirky clothes = happy Millie

6 things you should do at the beach

1. Purchase some food, only to promptly get it stolen by a seagull

2. Sing a mix of lyrics at the top of your voice, partly for fun and partly to
scare away said seagull.

My playlist:
True Believer by Avicci (I wasn't always the brightest, until I learnt how to dance)
Best day of my life by American Authors (the sun was out till midnight)
This One's For You by David Guetta, Zara Larsson (hear our hearts beat together)
Shots by Imagine Dragons (oh I'm gonna mess this up, oh this is just my luck)

3. Do at least one cartwheel, preferably in the water so that when you fall over you only get wet instead of bruised.

4. Take approximately 72 photos, mainly doubles and all blurry.

5. Those 72 don't include all the failed selfies and attempts at photographing Mr Seagull, just so you can prove to everyone that this DID ACTUALLY happen.

6. Draw a heart in the sand, take a photo of it and send love to everyone in the world....
....except the seagull.

The Hidden Oracle

The usual spoiler alerts....

Ok so yes one half of me says Rick Riordan is pulling out the Percy Jackson thing, but the other half of me is fangirling all over this new edition to my bookshelf!

I liked Apollo's view on the human world in general and the references back to actual Greek Mythology mixed in with Modern references Rick Riordan thought Apollo might have done. Like his whole trouble over Daphne and Hyanthesis and his realisations about himself.
Although I didn't like the Snapchat, Facebook, Hashtag bits. It felt like they were just dropped in to try and please a modern audience and didn't flow with the rest of the story.
So, Hi Rick, Please can you not put any references like that in the next one? I prefer your old style!

I found that the new characters aren't very likeable. They don't have much going on except Apollo's kids and Meg and I don't know about anyone else but I didn't particularly feel very attached to any of them. However I am still in love with all the old characters that made an appearance, especially Nico di Angelo and all his funny conversations with Will Solace and the few glimpses of Percy Jackson we saw. Sad I know but you have to love Apollo's reaction to his apartment, mum, food, ego....
And Leo Valdez with his metal dragon and ex goddess is going to be in the next book with a major part I'm so excited I have lost the power of punctuation and grammar who cares anyway Leo's back yay

Even though I am not too keen on the new characters, I love the whole new tri concept thing!
I have heard people say that it doesn't make sense and "wait, the whole Gaia thing was because of some past their time emperors?", but I think it wraps everything weird that ever happened in the world of Percy Jackson together nicely and awesomely and also opens up a hole in Rick Riordan world for him to write a whole bunch more amazing books!! *please, my whole career as a Percy Jackson fangirl would be over if he didn't and that would be tragic*.

Last of all I just feel that I should mention
        the haikus at the (5)
        beginning of each chapter (7)
        genius I know (5)
Sorry that was a really bad attempt at a haiku....

Friday 27 May 2016

Come walk with me beneath the woodland canopy....

where satyrs roam and run barefoot....

and secret bluebells grow....
(except something kind of trampled them - maybe a mini bulldozer....or the rain)

next to the nymphs playing in the sun dappled pool....

and white blossoms flew in the wind....

I have more old romantic lines of blank verse but I think that's enough for one post!

May Fair

Is it only my town that thinks it is a good idea to put plastic ducks in a river and cheer them on or is this a nationwide thing? The most a duck has ever won us is a fiver. That couldn't even buy you candyfloss. Maybe you could, I don't know, bet on another duck! Yay.

We have a May Fair every year. There are stalls from local shops and organizations, the kids get free range with a load of sports equipment, local singers do their thing in a ring at the centre, there's a man using a chainsaw to turn a piece of wood into a hare (that was a first for this year!) and the piece de resistance (say in French accent)....the dog show. This dog show lasts FOREVER. There are more categories then you would think possible.

I couldn't get any closer to take a photo of the ducks and I was trying to crop out the random cadets pushing the stray ducks down the river, so I apologize for the bad photos!

Post soon, Millie x
